In regards to the statement made my Mdm soh, I do not agree with Mdm Soh that wayward youth should be sent to the bootcamps due to 4 major reason.
//1) Horn Effect
Mdm soh have 4 kids that is teenagers who is rash, abrasive and impulsive. She also stated that her kids cannot be controlled. Why do i say that she is affected by the horn effect? Because she is stereotyping all teens like her kids… Lets take a look at how she came to the conclusion.
Premise one: My kids is rash, abrasive and impulsive.
Premise two: My kids are teenagers.
Conclusions: All teenagers is rash, abrasive and impulsive thus, they should be sent to boot camps.
2) Availability Heuristics
Mdm Soh is making decision through Availability Heuristics, Which means she does not consider all aspects but judge by making decisions that is readily available. As can be seen from the last paragraph. My friend’s son picked up smoking….. and also “my anothers friend’s son has taken to spouting profanities”
So her basis is that if she has a friend son that smokes and say vulgarity, all her friends son is like that. Lets take a look at her premise and her conclusion.
Premise one: 2 out of 2 of my friends son Is bad.
Premise two: 100% of those I asked is bad.
Conclusion: all of my friend’s children is bad..
3)Stakeholder framing
She is making her of opening a similar boot camp because she have a vested interest and thus, she will try to influence the way people view this matter. As can be seen from the last paragraph of her letter 3rd line,” isn’t is reasonable for the government to also take care of our children’s discipline? O.0 Thus, it is obvious that she wants the government to take care of her children because she feels that her task is just to fufill and increase the country’s birthrate.
Thus, we do not agree with what Mdm Soh of opening a bootcamp because whatever she say, there is a pitfall in her decision making.

ReplyDeleteStakeholder framing is a mistake made by someone else, if let's say they reads Mdm Soh's letter and decides to agree with her and support the initiative of sending their wayward children to boot camp. Then, they have made the Stakeholder framing error in decision making. I'd say that she shows biases in her letter due to her considering about her own children needing help from external sources - the boot camp. >Team 2

ReplyDeleteI think this part was well done by team 2 as a good inductive argument which follow closely to the premises. Thus making this argument highly probable. T2
We agree to the "she wants the government to take care of her children because she feels that her task is just to fufill and increase the country’s birthrate." as she have a vested interest and blame the government for not upbringing her 4 children.
